Since this is our first Halloween in this pit hole of the earth, I was not sure what time trick or treating started. In our previous pit hole there was a scheduled time. Usually 5-7. I think that is pretty respectable.
So I call the city hall, figuring they could shed some light on this matter. Come to find out, there is no set time. Kids can start as early as they want and go till they drop.
I need some structure when it comes to the art of trick or treating. Is this just my pit hole of a city, or are there other towns out there that do not conform to any "Halloween rules".
And what about Devils Night? Or is that just in Michigan too..The night before Halloween kids go out and egg and soap things. I don't think anyone around here knows such dreadful tactics. I have not heard any mention of Devils Night. Which I guess is a good thing.
Anyway, happy gouling:-)

In our neighborhood, the kids usually start around 6 and go to about 8. If someone does not have an outside light on, that means they are not giving out candy. So around 8, I usually turn out the light.
I think they have devil's night in Chicago, but don't quote me on that!
We went to the movies the other night, and when we came out, all the cars (including ours) has been written on. Ours said HONK on the back window.
Some kids had fun.
We moved in mid-July and I haven't blogged about it at all since it is a temporary move until next summer. So, I have no idea what the kids here do. There are only 3 kids that I've seen, so we plan to scare them to death tonight when they show up. I've got chocolate for them, so that should calm them down after we scare them.
Happy Halloween to you, spawns and all!!
andrea,i only let mine go for an hour or so too, so i take it your town doenst have set time either then huh?
Denise, yeah I think hte no light thing is pretty universal, but one year we did not hand out candy because we both went out to tkae the oldest trick or treaitng, we got home and had the lights off, but still we had kids come to the door..ugg
Jamie, I did not know u had moved, shows how little I know...should make for a short trick or treat night if u have only seem 3 kids..but they all come out the woodowrk on halloween..LOL
MWH,now your candy would last longer if u didnt eat it..LOL
We have no time restrictions which is bad on a school night I think! It said in the paper from dusk till curfew?????? Whatever. We're going up one side of the street and down the other. And I don't even buy candy. Last year my mom had between 700-800 kids come to her house!!!
I think ours is like 6-8 or something like that. As kids there was never a set time but that was back in the day when it was safe!
Our time starts early. The little ones like mine are out beginning at after 3pm. Then, as the afternoon turns to evening, the older ones come out. I'm pretty new to this since the last couple of years, so I just follow the "rules". I don't mind the early time--just to get it over with for me. :) We will go out later to the in-laws to surprise them and call it a night. Have a fun one. :)
There is no set time here in the South. You start when you want and stop when you want. We have to drive around to all of the houses, it is alot of in and out, but the kids love it. People invite them inside and chit chat and pour the candy in their bags. Never heard of Devil's Night.
i am listening to fireworks go off as i'm reading this- i already told some kids to scram that were setting them off next to my baby SLEEPING spawn's window..lol. and kids were out early here in NY- right after school they started.
Ok... time thing. It's always (for all my life anyway) been a scheduled thing. The village here was from 6-7, but if we would have went the other direction into town, then it was from 6-730. I don't think I'd really know what to do either if it was scheduled! LOL And I do think that Devil's nite is a MI thing, but don't quote me on that one. Hmmm... I'll have to poke around on that one and see what I can find out! :)
well i know in detroit it was big and it was really big in my small town..but here you dont find many folks who know what it is...just as well i guess..lol
I am orginally from Michigan too. We always had devils night. I have never heard it mentioned here in fla. Weird.
There is no devil's night here and no one in my area has any idea what a real bad neighborhood looks like. We were out from 6 to 8. I am so over Halloween this year, we had too many things going on! I almost wish we had flown home to MI for the day.
We live in the country so no trick or treaters for us but we usually take the kids out around 6 and stay out for about an hour. I don't think that we have a set time either and no Devil's night. Thank Goodness! LOL
