Sticks and Stones

A couple days ago I was advised to read this so called article on MSN. The writer of said shit is a Sean Nelson.

Not sure how this dude got a job writing about music..and he seems like a total douche bag and must be a very insecure man and is overwhelmed with jealousy over music acts that have succeeded in time, where his crap band, Harvey Danger has virtually went no where...See I bet you have never even heard of it..

My point exactly.

His crap listed the ten bands/artist he feels should stop making music.

Let me tell you, he got some feathers ruffled..including mine.

These are some he listed..

Madonna..I cant disagree 100% on this one, she has not put anything decent out in 10 years at least.

The Rolling Stones...although I'm not a fan, I have heard they can still put on ONE hell of a show, and frankly, if u still got it, get paid 4 it.

Elton John...this one cuts me deep...If u know me, u know I think Elton is the single handedly the most talented bloak out there..His last couple CD's have been nothing short of excellent, I have seen Elton in concert a couple times, and he takes my breath away.

Bryan Adams..I love him. I will admit I have not heard new stuff, but I saw in him concert with Lepps a couple summers ago, and he still has it..who the hell doesn't love Summer of 69?...

The WHO..now those would be fightin words for my dad. He LOVES The Who..and I have heard their newer stuff and its pretty damn good.

Carly Simon...I have never been a fan, don't like her old stuff, don't like her new stuff..I don't care so much about this one.

Joni Mitchell...another one...this one I don't care much about, don't like old, never heard the new.

and one of the last one he mentions is...

Def Leppard...oh hell NO, is all I can say. When I read that, the first thought that came to my mind was..."this tool doesnt care if his nutsack gets bashed in." Their new CD is wonderful...and the live shows, well they are some of the best...

So you can see why my panties have been given me a wedgie ever since I read this piece of cow dung..

So I decided to compile my own list of people I think should maybe think about stop making tunes and or touring...

This is just public service announcement more then anything..

1. BLONDIE..

.the new stuff is very bad. Debra Harry's voice is plain scary now..lets just live in a world where Heart of Glass still kicks ass..

2.Poison/Bret Michaels

.....Do I even have to give a reason?..Poison has not put anything good out since Look What the Cat Dragged In back in 86..sorry, buts its true..and Bret, well him and his wig need to check out...

3.Bob Dylan..

.his voice was never good 30 years ago, and now, its just well...creepy.

4.Celine Dion....

.I mean, seriously..

5. New Kids on the Block.

..yup, the bad boys are back together and stronger then ever..no, wait...they are tools and should get good office jobs to support their tots, lets face it, they are not Hanging Tough anymore..

6.Shania Twain

...now that her husband left her, her music will suck, because lets face it, Mutt Lange can make anyone sound good..and when your hubs is your producer, and he is gone, your career is over..He wrote and produced ALL her hits..she is over. Period.

7.Motley Crue.

...I mean, holy toots....the new stuff is just plain, well...unstable

8.Mariah Carey.

....her stuff in the 90's was..."ok"...anything after is just plain un-listenable..

9.Neil Young...

.now if my dad were to catch wind I said this, he would take my allowance away for sure...He just saw him in concert not long ago, and said it was good..however, I saw him perform on a couple shows last few months, and well..its not happening..And I listened to his new CD whilst with my father and I hated it...when u have a song over ten minutes long, ur trying to over-compensate for something..

10.Kiss.

..I know I'm gonna get a back lash on this one...but frankly, after 1979, they have went in the shitter...Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the old stuff and even stuff up unto the 80's....but I have heard some concerts they have given in the last couple years and well....they lost it when they lost the make up...

Im gonna throw in a freebie here...and I say this one because I think they lost it long ago...and the lead singer is one arogant mother*ucker..and he rubs me in all sorts of wrong ways..

whitesnake...

I saw them in concert in 1987 with Great White...and they sucked so bad I swore I would not ever see them again..I know they were doing some touring over seas with Def Leppard, and I felt so bad for the fans who had to sit thur it last month..

so there ya go....this is my list of who I think should hang it up, and the reasons why.

Tell me if u agree or disagree, and also give someone you think should stop recording music..

Although I find it hard to say anyone should stop making music, because someone likes this shit they put out...just because it isn't me, doesn't me someone else isn't enjoying it..

So...What are your thoughts?

Rock on bitches...

Patti,
amen 2 that.

I agree with YOUR list way more than his list!

My only exception would be NKOTB, since my daughter always loved them, so for her sake, I would welcome them back to touring.

Hope all is well by you. Thinking of you!!!

Ma,
trust me, when I was a teen, I had posters of them ALL over..I saw them in concert twice..

but Ma, lets face it, they arent hangin tough anymore;)

Your list makes a helluvalot more sense. Blondie scares the hell out of me! She needs to get some Kiss make-up on.

Scarlet,
4 sure..

OMG! I so hear you about New Kids on the Block. They are old now (okay, younger than me) but too old to be singing to their 12 year old target audience!
"Hey girl can I get your number?" There is something so so wrong with this!!!

I agree with most. I do still like Madonna especially with Justin (YUM). I also LOVE Motley Crue - even some of the new stuff. I have seen them twice since 2005 and they rocked - although Vince Neil's voice is pretty crappy. I am in complete love with Tommy Lee and love him Tommyland book and album. I do however totally disagree with that guys choice of Def Leppard. PHEW - I think I took up enough of your time.

Does the author of said article realize you have put a hit out on him?! He better watch his back...

Lisebella,
no kidding..I mean, there is a time to stop, and 20 years ago was it;)

CMB,
I never knew u were a crue fan, im very pleased. I loved them in the 80's, but they kinda bug the shit outta me now..

Tam,
he does now..hahaha

I was going to type a brilliant comment but I got distracted when I looked at my hands at the keyboard. They're looking old. Sorry, I'm highly distractible these days.

He dissed Def Leppard? WTF?

I agree with most of your list except for Motley Crue. I'm still a die-hard fan.

And Celine...........*barf*

oh I'm so with you on the celine dion (did i spell that bitches name right?) DISS.
After the movie titanic came out and we were forced to hear her sing "My heart goes on...." FOREVAHHH...i swore I was gonna hunt her down and rip her on going heart out!! ARGH. I hate her whiny sound.
AND she's freaky. She looks sorta like a gecko in a one piece polyester suit.
Just sayin :|

she's probably a nice person...

eyes_only4him said...

Kat,
u read my mind..

Oh, Pshaw said...

The comment about the gecko in the polyester suit. Man, that made me laugh. So very true.

How old was that so-called writer? I'm guessing a snot-nosed 20something. Never heard of him or his band.

In some ways, I do agree that the new music by singers and bands from my youth never seems as good as their music did back in the day. But if a band can make new music, wow and dazzle their fans, then who am I to say they should hang it up?

But, if you think about it, when you're a youngin', you're influenced much differently by music. How many times as an adult do you listen to a song over and over again because it reminds you of your boyfriend? The appreciation comes from a much different place.

I heard that Reo Speedwagon is coming to our area this fall. I loved their music back as a teen, and still like it from that era, but nothing is making me slightly curious about their new CD.

Not the Brady,
I was suppose to see REO In April with Lepps, but the show as postponed..

I agree with u, it seems today that bands and such just arent any good. I think the reason we revert back to the old stuff is because it was good..

I can not think of one band that has come out in the lst even 10 years that has been half way decent, other then Nickelback.

now thats sad..

I am music-ly retarded, and giving me a vote is like asking Boo, but since you did ask, here goes:

NKOTB were super cool back in the day, but I ass-u-me-d that their material would be targeted at me still, not my eight year old daughter. I can't even listen to the whole song without wanting to run somebody over.

I also think George Michael is an awesome song WRITER, but I wouldn't get off the couch if he was playing in my front yard. Well, maybe to water the plants, but DEFINITELY not to watch him awkwardly "dance" like Carlton.

Ditto on Celine. Have you seen Kathy Griffin crack on her? Hilarious.

I personally don't like Kanye West, not that his stuff isn't catchy, but I just think he's an ass and can't stand the guy.

Not much into Janet Jackson anymore, since seeing how idiotic she is. I just always thought she was the "sane" one, but no, she is as retarded as the rest of them.

Ok, thats enough from the preschool playground.

eyes_only4him said...

Humincat,
well, I must agree with u on most here..

I do not consider what Kayne Wesy or any of this cohorts do music whats so ever..

George Micheal is awesome..he wrote all WHAM songs as well as all his own..His voice is that of a 1000 nightingales:)

And if he was playing in my yard, I would not only water the plants, but do it with my undies on..

(i know he is gayer then a 3 dollar bill, but still)

I agree with you even though I have no idea what the freak you are talking about because my breakfast beer has taken a turn for the worse

Dooze,
this is why I love u uncondtionally.

Bands that have been around for 40 years and are still making music I think are just generally talented musicians and songwriters. Bands that don't rely on physicallity ( NKOTB with the dance moves etc.) or are from a certain era (Hair bands from the 80's) will last . The Allman Brothers come to mind. Talented musicians who have always just stood and played...no gimmicks...never did the spandex English sissy boy stuff. Elton John too...talent and not a need for a physical show. I bet Tina Turner still puts on a hell of a show at her age. I miss The Shaggs!!! (google them)

eyes_only4him said...

Tom,
Tina is awesome..i saw her in 87 and she was amazing..im seeing her in october as well..i cant wait.

IamDerby said...

Well I dont listen to most of those people...although some I did back in the day. I am a ahem.. a country fan. LOL! I swore back in highschool I never would be, but yes I crossed over to the dark side. I would argue that Shania will be better after her divorce. That stupid Mutt guy has kept her locked up in some castle overseas and she hasnt put out a decent thing since she popped his kid out. If she comes back she will be better.

Tom said...

Bossy, I'm sure Tina would put on a great show...Imagine going back in time to see her and Ike in their prime?
I don't know if you've heard of a band called Spirit (guitarist was Randy California) but the drummer now is 85 or 86 and still performs. They were big 70's and early 80's.

eyes_only4him said...

Derbs,
COUNTRY?...oh hell no honey;)

Well, she never had a hit b4 Mutt, so I guess we will see what happens after him;)

Tom,
nope never heard of them..u know all sorts of bands I never heard of..

Oh, Pshaw said...

I'm sitting here trying to think of one CD I own by someone who put it out in the last 20 years. Granted, we're in the internet days, and I can listen on Rhapsody in lieu of buying a CD. I bought some greatest hits - The Doors, Dire Straits, Billie Holiday. Nothing new by a new artist or group.

Nickelback is good. Agree 100% with that. I really like that song "Landing in London" by 3 Doors Down...but go figure, Bob Seger joined them for that.

Perhaps video did kill the radio star, and there's too much focus on videos and making the almighty buck instead of making great music?

Oh, Pshaw said...

Oops, just remembered. I bought Kid Rock's "Cocky." But I've got a secret love affair going on with him. So secret, that he doesn't even know about it.

eyes_only4him said...

Not the Brady's,
I agree...although you are hard pressed to find music videos anymore..which is sad, cause that was all I did as a teen...Thats how I found most of the music I like to this day..

The last cd I bought was Songs from the Sparkle Lounge by Def Leppard...I want to go buy the new Forigner one, its called No end In Sight...

I find myself still buying the same artist I did 20 years ago..

Its not our fault, there is just no talent out there anymore, and if there is...

Im not seeing it anywhere..

Oh and I LOVE Dire Straits..

and Bob Segar..

shazam;)

eyes_only4him said...

Brady,
haha...I do like his new song, but other then that, im not a fan..

We are from the same state though;)

Anonymous said...

i haven't heard of any of them cept Shania Twain
I didn't know she sang though, I had her arrested for stalking tho
she wouldn't take no for an answer!

Bee said...

Def Leppard rocks. We all know this but this guy must be brain damaged from iPod hearing loss thanks to Anne Murray and BJ Thomas.

Carol King and Carly Simon should never sing in public again. (insert hurling noises)

I personally LOVE Celine Dion's voice. She is amazingly talented, but she sings so much crap...Lord help us all, it's a crime against nature.

Shannon said...

Your list is right on the money girl!!! Quit your day job and go write for Rolling Stone, you missed your calling, lol.
Oh, TOTALLY agree on Madonna though, she truly does suck now.

A friend of mine played bass with Whitesnake for a time. The Who were AWESOME on the Vh1 salute. A friend of mine was in the audience in L.A. where Flaming Lips and others honored this band. Joni Mitchell's early music was SO engaging. Her latest CD "Shine" is awesome, if she would just stop destroying herself with cigarettes...speaking of one of my favorite guitarists who smokes...Keith Richards. Flip Flop, "A Bigger Bang" is just kick ass great music. And the guys still have it. I consider them one of the few remaining Superbands left. lol!

Unknown said...

Have to think on that. We were rockin' the Oz on the ipod on the way home from Cloud tonite, and the new Ozzy is OK. As long as you don't have to watch him. Just listen.

Bee said...

she may have a nice voice, but she sure as shit doesnt know what to do with it huh?

NO lie. David Foster has single-handedly murdered her career.

JoeinVegas said...

Shania sings? I never realized that; I just watch the videos with the sound turned off.
