well I ended up taking baby spawn to the doctor this morning. She has not slept for the last 3 nights. And she has episodes of being crabby and clingy. No fever and no other symptoms. Well the doctor said she can not find anything physically wrong with her.
Her diagnosis, she is having night terrors. Oh crap, and it started the night I let her watch American werewolf in London...Oh no, its my fault.
But I don't think that is the problem. I am not sure what it is, but I find this very unlikely. She gave me a paper on it, and the only thing on it that matches her sypmtoms is she awakes 1-2 hours after sleeping. The rest of them is not her.
She has no ear infection, not teething, no belly pain when she pressed on her tummy, no fever.
So what the heck is wrong with her? I will not believe that she is having night terrors. It makes no sense.
I give up, if it continues for another day, I will be taking her back.
Oh heck anyway
toodles

Night terrors is a crazy thing. One of my friends daughters had a period of going through them. It really freaked her out.....the Mom more than the kid. The unfortunate thing is that not alot is known about them and treatment is trial and error. You will all make it through.
Angie
angie, how old was your friends daughter?..mine is only 2..i am kinda freaked out..
thanks for for the good thoughts though:0
She was 2 also. She called me one day freaking out and told me about what had been happening the last few nights and I immediately said "night terrors". She took her to the doc the next day and the doc said "night terrors." See Mom, I do use my degree in psychology. ;)
She'll be fine. I know how hard it is watching your baby go through all of that. Actually what ended up working for my friend was that she cut out naps for a couple of weeks, and they went away. Seems that she just wasn't tired enough to fall into deep sleep at night.
Angie
angie,
well that makes me feel a little better. the dr. today told me to try cutting out naps or at least cutting the lenght of them. But she is soo damn crabby..uggg!!!...
thanks :-)
I think she could be having nightmares. I think the thing you can do is ask her why she isn't sleeping. That gets directly to the problem.
gina,
well she is only 2, and she doesnt know how to explain herself..and she doesnt understand when I ask her "whats wrong" she says " nuttin momma"..she has no clue what I mean..
Poor baby... Glad there's nothing physically wrong with her... How bout a warm bath, some hot cocoa before brushing teeth and a nice happy story before bed?
Tee,
good thinking, we do all those things, story, prayers and good hoseing off of the teeth..turn on her "silly songs" cd, and she is usally out in half hour of less..
uggggg...good suggstions though:)
Poor baby...and mom! I feel for you. Hopefully this will pass quickly. Maybe having no naps and reading a nice happy story before bedtime will help. Good luck!
denise,
I am hoping this little "phase if you will" will pass soon. I can not go on like this much longer, I may have to come stay with u and bug for a few days so i can get some sleep:-)
Oh gosh--I'm sure she will be fine soon. But, the crabiness is completely due to the lack of sleep. Maybe you and her could take a nap together during the day just to get a little sleep. But, cutting the naps does make sense too. See? I don't know what I'm talking about. Take care to all of you! :)
i saw a thing on night terror on tv once and it was scary to watch. all i remember them saying is if your kid is having an episode while they're sleeping...DON'T wake up..because they are more likely to remember their dream if you do.
hope she gets better! poor baby.. :(
MWH, wlel u never know, that was my thought too..LOL
Marel, I am sure the crabbiness and the no sleep are results of eachother too. But why did it start to begin with?????...I hate this crap..
Vani, well the papers the doctor gave me on night terros does not even sound like what she is having..she just wakes up crying, and wide awake..she really doesnt match any of the other stuff, so u got me...i know i am not likeing this, i know that much..LOL
Poor little thing. You are doing the right thing by taking her back if this continues. Little ones need their sleep.... and so do mommies.
Is she by any chance cutting molars? Those can make them crabby during the day and uncomfortable enough to wake up crying a lot at night which then, in turn makes them even crabbier during the day. Sometimes it is hard to see them under the surface but they can still wreak their havoc. Maybe a dose of tylenol before bed and see if that helps, just in case.
Good luck! It is so frustrating when we can't seem to help them!
oh the poor baby spawn - I hope she starts sleeping soon & feeling better - nothing is worse than when you know something is wrong - but yet - nothing is wrong - especially when they are at the age when they can't verbalize that they see monsters in their dreams....
JD, Yes we mommies need our sleep..yet i dont know how she can go on with only a few hours of sleep..amazing..
Dottie, well the dr checked to see if she was cutting teeth and it did not appear to be that she was,i gave her some motrin the other night, but it did no good, but i am doing it again tonight...this bites..
Angie, that sounds like a good idea, but the only Christian music I have is Veggie Tales..LOL..and thanks for the prayers. I need them now:-)
Momma, aint that the truth, I just wish she could tell me what the heck is the matter....it is very frustrating....TALK ALREADY WILL YOU BABY SPAWN..heehee
Maybe she is just waking up to wake up and doesn't know how to go back to sleep. Does she have a night light in her room? Or the fish light up aquarium? I always told my son when he would wake up to play the fish and watch them. he was 2 then. Just an idea...doesn't sound like night terrors to me, my friends little girl has those and they are so strange...Does she wake up crying? Or does she just wake up and is she wide awake? Will she sleep if you lay with her?
I hope you can find a solution to her night waking. I'm sure it's no fun for you!
My lil one does this too, girly. But she always has. Her bedtime is approx. 8 pm, then she up again, sometimes crying, sometimes just hollaring "Mommmmm" until I'm in there. She does this every 10 mins to I think the most she's stayed asleep is about 25 mins, through the nite until about 3ish am. I just go in there, talk softly too here while gently rubbing her back, or stomach (whichever way she is laying) until her eyes are closed again. I don't think I'd worry too much about her, unless it starts affecting her personality during the day.
